MARCH 2022: RAFFLE- NO WAR

Posted on

I am beset with the war.

On March 1st I deleted all socials off my phone to take a hiatus. My relationship with my phone is not overly terrible but I wanted to “take a break” and see what else comes up IRL. Create some open space and address that habitual moment where I reach for my phone, open up Instagram or my email or the news for a minute, then turn it off. If you were ever a smoker, it’s like all that time you spend thinking about smoking, only to grab a cigarette, light it, take a couple puffs, then put it out. Not really smoking the cig, just ‘filling the void’ or creating some diversion from NOW.

Anyway, my point about all of this is Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

First though, I need to get WTF out of the way. WTF.

How do I handle WTF IRL, off of social media? How can I share my outrage? Don’t I need to contribute to this collective outpouring of anger, grief, and solidarity on social media? Is it the right thing to do and would it make me feel better? Or is it just a salve for my feelings, a check mark on my “deal with my feelings about war” box?

And then the question, do I need be on social to find out what is going on or can I find other places to express, connect & be informed?

Which leaves me with, What else can I do? How can I help?

Here is something I can do. For the rest of March 2022, I pledge to donate 10% of all un-discounted sales to CARE.ORG, providing the people of Ukraine with immediate emergency assistance.

I’ve also set up a raffle that will close March 30th. 100% of the raffle ticket cost will be donated also to CARE.ORG.

Also sharing, sent to me by my friend Juliana, this site STOPPUTIN.NET to help me find events & ways to help Ukraine 'beyond the feed'.
We have (and I feel) community on social media- I’m totally down with that. But Meta is not my jam, and I hate having all my ‘community’ eggs in their fucked up basket.

So while I explore other ways to engage- Stay well, stay strong, love yourself, all your fellow earth inhabitants and mother Earth herself. And FUCK PUTIN.
