PLT Specs & Installation Info

*Please note that these are general guidelines ONLY. Installation may need to be adjusted to accommodate the weight of the curtain based upon wall type and stud location while using appropriate anchors. MQuan Studio is not liable for any damage done during or after installation. 

WHAT IS A PLT?

  • PLT wall hangings are a set configuration and assembled by components configuration (not to size) therefore sizes are listed but will vary slightly
  • PLT's require installation assembly & specs are listed below by style. Note that the spacing for PLT's is different than the spacing for the curtains

COMPONENTS:

  • Bevelled Bars are up to 1' longer than the width of the ceramic and available in unfinished Walnut (top) or White oak (bottom)
  • Wood wall mounts are assembled with key hole hanger hardware. Use an appropriate wall anchor and one size 8 flathead screw, minimum 1-1/4" in length. We do not recommend using the wood wall mounts for wall hangings larger than 6 Square Feet
  • Steel & brass metal brackets have 2 x 1/4" hole per bracket 
    • Use at least a size 8 x 1-1/4" flathead screw.
    • Please consult with professionals in regards to choosing correct anchors & screws for wall type
  • How many wall mounts per wall hanging?:
    • 2.5' wide and under- 2 wall mounts
    • 3' to 3.5' wide- For outside placement use 3 wall mounts. For inside placement use 2 wall mounts
    • 4' wide and over- use 1 wall mount per 2' sections
  • Wall mounts can be placed on the outside of hanging or within:

PLT WEIGHTS

  • Weights (estimated) per square foot:
    • Discs Knotted- 6 pounds
    • Discs Layered- 6.5 Pounds
    • Shells Layered- 8 Pounds
    • Press Beads- 1.75 Pounds
    • Rings- 1.5 Pounds

GENERAL INSTALLATION STEPS:

  • Determine location, positioning and placement on the wall using the widest component, the bar, and the longest strand
  • Mount brackets to wall 
  • Place bar on brackets
  • Slide strands onto bar
  • Space strands

VIDEO LINKS:

      • Layered components & macrame wall hangings have a 'bunny ear' loop that slides on the bar. These arrive taped in place, but if the loop needs to be established, instructions can be found here for discs/shells and macrame
        • Layered shells & layered discs sometimes 'kink' when first installed. A video for straightening them can be found here
          • Screws & Anchors are NOT shipped with wall mounts to insure that appropriate screws and anchors are used for the type of wall that the wall hanging is mounted on

            PLT5 Disc- Knotted

            • Bar length 21'
            • Bar diameter is 1 1/8"
            • Strands are spaced 3.5" apart
            • Wall mounts are spaced 17" 

            PLT7 Disc- Knotted

            • Bar length 28" 
            • Bar diameter is 1 1/8"
            • Strands are spaced 3" apart
            • Wall mounts are spaced 21" 

            PLT7L Disc- Layered

            • Bar length is 25"
            • Bar diameter is 1 1/8"
            • Strands are spaced 2.5"
            • Wall mounts are spaced 19" 

            PLT10 Disc- Knotted

            • Bar length is 36" 
            • Bar diameter is 1.5"
            • Strands are spaced 2.5" apart
            • Wall mounts
              • Placed outside spaced 25" 
              • Placed inside of 1 strand on each side 20.5" 

            PLT10 Mac Disc- Knotted

            • Bar length 30"
            • Bar diameter is 1.5"
            • Wall mount spacing- 19”
            • Macrame arrives with rope thread through top knots, remove rope and slide bar through
            • Stretch macrame to approximately 18" wide and into place on the bar before you hang on mounts

            PLT10 Disc Tapestry- Knotted

            • Bar length is 36" 
            • Bar diameter is 1.5"
            • Strands are spaced 2.5" apart
            • Wall mounts are spaced 26" 

            PLT11L Disc- Layered

            • Bar length is 36"
            • Bar diameter is 1.5"
            • Strands are spaced 2.25" apart
            • Wall mount are spaced:
              • On inside of first & last ceramic strand- 21"
              • On outside of all ceramic strands- 25"

            PLT12 Mac Disc- Knotted

            • Bar length is 36"
            • Bar diameter is 1.5"
            • Wall mount spacing- TBD
            • Macrame arrives with rope thread through top knots, remove rope and slide bar through
            • Stretch macrame approximately 20-21" wide and into place on the bar before you hang on mounts

            PLT / SHELL (LAYERED) STYLE SPECS:

            PLT7L Shell- Layered

            • Bar length 25" 
            • Bar diameter is 1 1/8"
            • Strands are spaced 2.5" apart
            • Wall mounts are spaced 19" apart / 1 strand on outside (measured from screw holes)

            PLT7LW Shell- Layered

            • Bar length 36" 
            • Bar diameter is 1 1/8"
            • Strands are spaced 5" apart
            • Wall mounts are spaced 24.25 apart (from center of WM)

            PLT10L Shell- Layered

            • Bar length is 31"
            • Bar diameter 1 1/8"
            • Strands are spaced 2.5"
            • Wall mounts are spaced 25" apart (from center of WM's)

            PLT11L Shell- Layered

            • Bar length is 36"
            • Bar diameter is 1.5"
            • Strands are spaced 2.5" apart
            • Wall mount are spaced (measured from center of WM's):
              • On inside of first & last ceramic strand- 22.5"
              • On outside of all ceramic strands- 27.5"

            PLT11LW Shell- Layered

              • Bar length is 5'
              • Bar diameter is 1.5"
              • Strands are spaced 5" apart
              • Wall mount are spaced 35" apart (measured from center of WM's) / 2 strands outside on each end  

            PLT14L Shell- Layered

            • Bar length is 42"
            • Bar diameter is 1.5"
            • Strands are spaced 2.5" apart
            • Wall mount are spaced (measured from center of WM's):
              • On inside of 2 ceramic strand on each side- 25"
              • On the outside of the piece you will need 3 wall mounts- 1 for the center at 21", and 17.5" from center bracket
